How did you get from stock (original) firmware to HD2 1.12.06 rev3.1 if you didn't understand the instructions? The procedure is the same, reset method (bootcode 18 or higher) or soft reset method (telnet): use either method to load new modded firmware or to return to "official" Asus firmware.

I'm wonder if anyone else experiencing these "glitches"? With rev3.1 and 3.2, if I connect an external hard drive to the unit while it is "on" and try and play a movie it usually crashes then appears to reboot and then doesn't "see" (recongnize) the USB drives...I usually reboot through homescrren/NAS/moServices/reboot and it's good again.

This problem also occurs after I stream from my computer using O!Direct and then try to return to homescreen/movies and play a file from my connected hard drive.

I have been using the modded firmware for months and love it...but this glitch annoys me. Of course O!Direct doesn't work with original firmware, but I have never had an issue with unpluging/pluging in an external HDD with the original firmware.

Is this a common issue?

I know, but I mean about implementation of .TXT subtitles support in firmware - in Realtek GPL is TEXTSUBParser.

I did it from menu :) with cancel method, learned fom here. That's why I proposed a little "manual", because there are different methods, that you learn only by browsing tons of unuseful information.

Staso's method worked fine, i upgraded last night. That's good for a sticky post :)

Thanks Staso.

gepa wrote:guys, you did a good job with the modding stuff, but you're sooo bad explaining what you did.
every bit of information is scattered through +40!!! pages of forum.. and some tens of threads.. really guys, I don't think anybody can find anything here.
and I suppose some info is translated with google translate or something, cause sometimes i understand the words but the phrase has no meaning at all.

can you organize a little your info? a sticky containing the steps from original FW to the modded one and the steps from HD2 1.12.06 rev3.1 to HD2 1.12.06 rev3.2, leave the helpful comments to other threads and update only with tips & tricks

that's why I hate linux too, all documentation sux big time.. :)

please help me, im trying to upgrade from HD2 1.12.06 rev3.1 to HD2 1.12.06 rev3.2, i read all the info but still dont understand a thing I have to do.. and believe it or not, I have technical background..

thanks, pls don't be upset for feedback

I hate to agree with you but it's true.
Seems like all information is here but I can't find it.
Same as if you had a book with no index.
For instance, I would love to use metafeeds with my HDP-R1 and I know that it is perfectly doable but there's no explanation in English on how to do it.
Google translate doesn't work from Cyrilic to English so I'm stuck.
Once in a while, when I see FarVoice online in GMail chat, I ask him things and that's when I learn a lot because the forum has lots of information which I can't use.

@devs
Please, don't misinterpret me: I do appreciate you guys taking your time to hack these players and sharing your findings with us.
But I find it very difficult to use more than 10% of what this FW has to offer just because I can't find proper instructions :(.
Thanks for all the hard work ;).
Cheers

information is definitely hard to read here
they keep posting pages and pages for modded firmware
and instead of seperating each firmware with its own thread, they keep updating the same thread and then the mods
get all cranky when you can't find any relevant information pertaining to what you are asking for.

easiest method to update modded firware:

put install.img file on a freshly formatted (or empty) usb thumb drive
insert thumb drive into media player
unplug power cord to mediaplayer
get pin/toothpick and hold reset button in on media player
while still holding this button in, plug in the power cord to media player
wait approx 3 seconds and let go of reset button

on screen, you will see white letters indicating that it is updating etc...
just leave it alone, and wait
within about 5-7 mins......... the entire process should be done, and you'll be back to the menu screen and your system is now
updated !!!!
